Reflector vs. Projector Beam Output.
The key point is reflectors will cover a wider angle but the light will be less intense and less focused, (Yes, you will have more light coverage out on the road but it will not be sharper and it will not be focused). Projectors will emit an intense and focused light thanks to the lens. As explained in diagram below.
The difference is because the style of beam the headlight uses. If your factory headlight uses a reflector style headlight beam you will have a dual filament bulb like the one shown below a H13 to get a brighter output when the high beam is triggered.
A projector style headlight beam is required to use a cut off shield by Department of Transportation because the beam is now more intense and condensed to the road in front of the vehicle.
The cut off shield is required so that you do not blind vehicles coming in front of you. When a projector beam used as the low and high beam then the cut off shield would be lowered when the high beam is triggered to the allow the whole projector to shine.
